Plasmodium yoelii gender-specific gametocyte transcriptome

To identify RNA binding proteins critical for male gametogenesis, we performed RNA-Seq to search the RBPs specifically expressed at male gametocytes in rodent malaria parasite P. yoelii. Using a double fluorescence reporters strain DFsc7, in which GFP and mCherry are specifically expressed in the male and female gametocytes respectively, male and female gametocytes were purified by fluorescence-activated cell sorting (FACS) and subjected to RNA-seq to generate gender-specific transcriptomes.
