The role of human gut microbiota in C. difficile infection.

Clostridium difficile infection has emerged as a major health problem. The strong association of CDI with prior use of antibiotics led to the recognition that disturbances in the gut microbiota apparently plays a central role in CDI. Fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) is effective in treating recurrent CDI. However, the mechanisms behind the FMT are still unclear. Overall, this project may inform the design of future diagnostic and therapeutic strategies.
