## **Abstract** \n\nThe dataset was derived by the Bioregional Assessment Programme the Victorian flood database. The parent dataset(s) is identified in the Lineage field in this metadata statement. The processes undertaken to produce this derived dataset are described in the History field in this metadata statement.\n\n\n\nThis dataset comprises a subset of the full Victorian Flood database separated on the specific year and month of the event in the Gippsland region. This package of data contains flood extent of the flood in March 2012 (201203). It may include both modelled and observed data.\n\n## **Purpose** \n\nVictoria Flood Database is a collection of observed and modelled flood information. It is used for risk assessment, strategic planning and emergency response. The Extent_100y_ARI and Floodway layers are used to develop flood-specific zones and overlays in the Municipal Planning Schemes. This collective data forms the basis for web-based interactive flood response mapping tool known as FLOODMAP.\n\n## **Dataset History** \n\nData has initially been drawn from authoritative sources through the digitisation project in 1998/1999 known as the Flood Data Transfer Project. Detail is primarily aligned to varying versions of Vicmap and other assorted data. Recent flood studies are largely based on high resolution DEMs, while some rural areas were mapped from oblique photography and 'best estimate' principles by floodplain managers. Positional accuracy of all content, although accepted as meeting a reasonable level of alignment, cannot therefore be accurately stated. An reliability and modified date attribute is given for every feature in the VFD.
