ADAPTIVE BIO-HEALING SYSTEM (ABHS) — VERSION 2.1Public Multidisciplinary Research ProposalThe Adaptive Bio-Healing System (ABHS) is a public-benefit multidisciplinary research proposal exploring new approaches to the treatment of burns and other serious skin injuries.ABHS investigates a cast-like adaptive gel-matrix system designed to provide containment, support, controlled mechanical interaction, and management of forces around injured tissue.The proposal also explores Personalised Bio-compatible Amniotic Fluid (PBAF) as the defining therapeutic medium, inspired by the biological environment of natural human amniotic fluid and designed around the patient’s own genetic and biological profile.The proposal does not claim that ABHS is a proven medical treatment or that its proposed engineering approaches are final. Instead, it establishes a framework through which the concepts can be scientifically investigated, challenged, refined, combined with other approaches, or improved.CORE PRINCIPLESVersion 2.1 distinguishes between non-negotiable project principles (“Hard Stops”) and scientific or engineering questions that should remain open to research.Hard Stops include:• Patient safety and welfare• Research ethics and informed consent• Scientific integrity and transparency• Public benefit• Privacy and individual control of personal information• Accessibility• Sustainable funding• Multidisciplinary collaboration• Avoiding intentional harm to animals• Eventual universal free access• The Exploration Principle• The Truth and Partnership Principle• The Founder’s Stewardship Principle• The Founder Support PrincipleEngineering implementations, materials, manufacturing methods, biological mechanisms, and treatment protocols remain open to evidence-based investigation and improvement.EXPLORATION PRINCIPLEABHS is committed to investigating the widest reasonable range of scientifically testable solutions.Potential approaches should not be rejected simply because they are unconventional, interdisciplinary, or challenge existing assumptions.They should instead be evaluated according to evidence, scientific integrity, patient safety, research ethics, and patient outcomes.TRUTH AND PARTNERSHIPABHS proposes that participation and means assessment should operate as a partnership rather than an adversarial process.The purpose of assessment is to understand a person’s circumstances so that support can be provided fairly and accurately, not to catch people out.The system should encourage truthful participation through dignity, transparency, respect, simplicity, and trust.ACCESSIBILITY AND FUNDINGABHS proposes a means-based contribution model based on a person’s overall financial capacity rather than income alone.People with little or no capacity to contribute should not be denied access because they cannot afford treatment.Sustainable funding is necessary during development and implementation. However, ABHS maintains a long-term commitment to eventual universal free access for every patient who needs it.PRIVACYPersonal and financial information collected for means assessment should be limited to what is reasonably necessary and used only for that purpose.Individuals should have meaningful control over how long supporting assessment information is retained, allowing them to balance privacy with the convenience of avoiding unnecessary repeat assessments.Information should be securely destroyed when the selected retention period ends or when it is no longer required, subject to applicable legal requirements.COLLABORATION AND FUTURE DEVELOPMENTABHS is intended to encourage collaboration across medicine, biomedical engineering, materials science, biology, rehabilitation, manufacturing, ethics, and other relevant disciplines.The project’s founding concepts provide a starting point rather than a restriction on future discovery.The goal is not to prove that the original design is correct.The goal is to find what works.ABOUT THIS PUBLICATIONThis publication documents Version 2.1 of the Adaptive Bio-Healing System proposal.ABHS is presented as a research proposal and conceptual framework, not as a validated medical treatment, clinical recommendation, or finished engineering specification.It is being made publicly available to encourage scientific evaluation, constructive criticism, collaboration, independent research, and evidence-based development.Concept originator: Tim — Australia
