Sphinx moths of Hawai'i

Moths are some of the most diverse insects in Hawai'i. Most of the University of Hawai'i Insect Museum's moths are very small ones entomologists call "microlepidoptera". Here is an assortment of our biggest and most spectacular native moths or "macrolepidoptera", the sphinx moths, as well as some of the introduced sphingids. This includes those endemic members of the genus Hyles and the endanged Manduca blackburni. You can help scientists understand how native insect diversity in Hawai'i has changed over time by helping digitize these specimens.This expedition of 216 tasks is fully transcribed and validated. This data resource is harvested periodically into the main occurrence index.
