Patiëntenparticipatie in de palliatieve zorg / Patient and public involvement in palliative care

Het project met de werktitel ‘Patiëntenparticipatie bij 10 projecten van Palliantie’ vond plaats in de periode april 2016 tot juni 2018. Het project richtte zich op het duurzaam versterken van betekenisvolle patiëntenparticipatie in onderzoek, onderwijs en in de praktijk in de palliatieve context. We hebben met 10 projecten samengewerkt die in de eerste subsidieronde van het ZonMw programma ‘Palliantie. Meer dan Zorg’ gehonoreerd werden. Deze projecten zijn verbonden aan een aantal Expertisecentra Palliatieve Zorg.PatiëntenparticipatiePatiëntenparticipatie kan op allerlei vlakken worden toegepast, zoals onderzoek, onderwijs, praktijk en beleid. Dat gebeurt door de inzet van talloze landelijke en regionale belangenbehartigers, patiëntenorganisaties, die op allerlei manier vorm geven aan patiëntenparticipatie. Om participatie te bevorderen zijn er allerlei tools ontwikkeld en wordt kennis breed ter beschikking gesteld. Ook bij en met kwetsbare doelgroepen, zoals mensen in de palliatieve levensfase en mantelzorgers.Maar hoe zit het nu met de participatie van mensen in de palliatieve levensfase? Het publieke taboe op de dood maakt dat er ook onvoldoende samen gesproken wordt over de inrichting van zorg rondom de dood. Door mensen in de palliatieve levensfase, mantelzorgers en patiëntenvertegenwoordigers te betrekken open je de dialoog met onderzoekers, professionals en met de samenleving. En zijn er voldoende aanknopingspunten om de zorg voor mensen in de palliatieve levensfase wezenlijk te verbeteren.Toolkit ‘Patiëntenparticipatie in de Palliatieve Zorg, onderzoeks-, onderwijs- en praktijkprojecten’We hopen met deze toolkit een bijdrage te leveren aan het meer betrekken van mensen in de palliatieve levensfase, hun mantelzorgers en patiëntenvertegenwoordigers door uitgebreid in te gaan op de meerwaarde, de opbrengst, de verschillende vormen en methodes en door verschillende persoonlijke ervaringen te beschrijven. Deze toolkit bestaat uit 5 onderdelen: 1) een uitgebreide inleiding over patiëntenparticipatie; 2) de hulpmiddelen ‘Serious gaming middels het Participatiespel’ en ‘de Participatie- matrix’; 3) een inspiratienota om Expertisecentra Palliatieve Zorg te stimuleren beleid t.a.v. patiëntenparticipatie te ontwikkelen; 4) een handleiding om onderzoekers toe te rusten patiëntenparticipatie in hun projecten toe te passen; 5) een portrettenboek waarin 17 portretten van patiëntenvertegenwoordigers en onderzoekers hun persoonlijke ervaringen delen._____________________________________________________This research project, short-titled ‘Patient and public involvement in 10 projects of Palliantie’ was conducted between April 2016 and June 2018. The goal was to improve meaningful patient and public involvement in research, education and practice in the context of palliative care. We collaborated with 10 projects that were financed by The Netherlands Organisation for Health Research and Development in the first round of the national research programme ‘Pallinatie. Many patient advocates, patient representatives, national and regional advocates contribute invaluably to patient and public involvement. There are many tools available to support patient and public involvement and only few for very vulnerable people such as people in need for palliative and end-of-life care.How do people in need of palliative and end-of-life care actually participate? The public taboo on death and dying makes it difficult to have a dialogue on care in the last phase of live. One way forward is involving people in need of palliative care, family caregivers and patient representatives in an open and genuine dialog with researchers, educators and professionals.Toolkit ‘Patientparticipation in palliative care: Research, education and practice'We hope to support the involvement of people in need of palliative and end-of-life care, family caregivers and patient representatives in the long run. This toolkit describes the added value, the benefits, the many different ways and methods of participation and personal experiences.
