Values are mean ± standard deviation. The latency to approach to a distance less than 5 m from the speaker was transformed by substracting the original values from the maximum possible value (300 s). Thus higher values indicate a more rapid approach. In brackets responses to natural calls from a previous study of corncrake neighbour-stranger discrimination are given [9].
