Alterations of gut microbiota are associated with brain structural changes in the spectrum of Alzheimer's disease: The SILCODE Study in Hainan cohort

This study included 127 participants in the Hainan cohort from the Sino Longitudinal Study on Cognitive Decline (SILCODE), including 35 normal control (NC), 62 individuals with subjective cognitive decline (SCD), and 30 patients with cognitive impairment (CI). Demographic information, neuropsychological assessments, and fecal samples were collected. Structural magnetic resonance imaging (sMRI) was performed on 100 participants. All the collected fecal samples were sequenced by 16S rRNA, and the composition and abundance of gut microbiota were obtained by biogenic analysis. The specific gut microbiota with significant differences was screened out. Then, the correlation between altered gut microbiota and sMRI indices was analyzed by combining the neuropsychological assessments.
