The dermatophytes are a large group characterized by being keratinophilic and keratinolytic fungi which have been recognized as agents of human diseases. The aim of this study was to identify molecularly and to determine the phylogenetic relationship of a group of dermatophyte fungi group isolated and characterized by the traditional phenotypic methods in a referral dermatology centre in Bogotá, Colombia. We also aim to correlate phenotypic characterization with molecular identification in order to check the concordance between the both methods and to check if through the molecular approach we could define the ecological origin of the isolates for clinical purposes.
