Municipal waste includes food and residual waste (formerly referred to as vascular and sack waste, coarse waste including garden waste, hazardous waste, comparable waste from shops, offices, industries and restaurants, among others, as well as the part of household waste covered by producer responsibility (packaging, newspapers, electrical waste, batteries, etc.), even if it does not fall under municipal cleaning responsibility. The number of inhabitants is adjusted with regard to holiday homes, guest nights and commuting. In distinctly holiday home municipalities or municipalities with extensive tourist activities, much more household waste is generated than the permanent residents give rise to. Even in municipalities with a large increment surplus, a lot of household waste is generated through the workplaces. By using an adjusted number of inhabitants, the amount of waste per person is more accurately reflected for their own municipality, which facilitates comparisons with other municipalities.
