Illinois Wetland Restoration 16S rRNA Targeted Sequencing

This project examines wetland microbial community composition along with plant communities and soil environmental characteristics to compare how different restoration strategies compared to un-manipulated adjacent floodplain forest. Our results demonstrate that restoration strategy and natural successional process influence restoration outcomes well beyond the 5 year Wetlands Monitoring and Assessment Action Plans that are typically performed in order to meet compliance of compensatory wetland mitigation as mandated by the US Clean Water Act.
