IMP-8 (IMP-J) was launched by NASA on October 26, 1973 to measure the magnetic fields, plasmas, and energetic charged particles (e.g., cosmic rays) of the Earth's magnetotail and magnetosheath and of the near-Earth solar wind. IMP-8 continues to operate. The Electrostatic Energy-Charge Analyzer (EECA) is the University of Maryland experiment on the IMP-8 satellite. Online plots and data of selected rates from EECA since 1990 are available from UMD (http://imp8.umd.edu/). Each plot covers one orbit, and each is color-coded to show the nominal positions of the bow shock and the magnetopause. Data are available from the P3, P5, P7 and A2 detectors.
