Socio-environmental Indices for Potential Microalgae Farm Sites Across the Conterminous United States
Dataset Description This dataset provides customized socio-environmental indices (SIs) for 26,576 potential microalgae farm sites spread across the conterminous United States (CONUS). These sites were identified using the Biomass Assessment Tool (BAT), an advanced spatial modeling framework designed to evaluate open-pond algal biomass production potential at high spatial resolutions. The BAT integrates a variety of biophysical and climatic factors—including land suitability, meteorological conditions, water availability, and microalgae growth parameters—to systematically determine optimal locations for establishing microalgae farms. The SIs were calculated by integrating the Social Vulnerability Index (SVI) and the Environmental Justice Index (EJI) datasets. This dataset supports informed decision-making in sustainable microalgae farming by assessing the socioeconomic and environmental impacts of microalgae farms siting across the CONUS. Content Overview Socio-environmental_indices.zip File Description: This zipped file contains the shapefile containing geospatial point data for all 26,576 potential microalgae farm sites in CONUS. Attribute Table Columns: "fid": Unique identifier for each microalgae farm site. "acres": Farm area (in acres). Percentile rankings for various SIs: "socio_per": Socioeconomic status. "hhs_per": Household composition & disability. "hsing_per": Housing type & transportation. "minor_per": Minority status & language. "envir_per": Environmental burden. "health_per": Health vulnerability. "OSI_per": Overall Status Index (OSI), representing a synthesized percentile ranking of all the indices above. Visualization_maps.zip File Description: A zipped folder containing 7 geospatial maps. Each map visualizes the percentile rankings of the potential microalgae farm sites across CONUS for one of the defined indices from the shapefile.
"envir_per": 环境负担水平。 "health_per": 健康脆弱性。
