Within the "Freshwater Oil Spill Remediation Study" (FOReST), a small volume of diluted bitumen (dilbit)was released into enclosures deployed in a freshwater lake located at the Experimental Lakes Area (ELA), Canada. The response of microbial communities to the oil release was monitored using 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing and metagenomic sequencing.
