Saint Luke the Evangelist

This sculpture comes from one of the external niches of the church of Ordanmichele in Florence. Saint Luke who is here represented is the patron saint of painters and of doctors. He is sometimes depicted writing the Evangile on the back of an ox, or painting the portait of the Virgin. He is here shown holding a book, which without doubt is the third Evangile of the Acts of the Apostles.该雕塑取自佛罗伦萨奥尔达尼米歇尔（Ordanmichele）教堂的一处外墙壁龛。本作所描绘的圣路加（Saint Luke）是画家与医师的守护圣徒。传统形象中，他常被塑造成在牛背上书写福音书，或是绘制圣母肖像的模样。此件作品中他手持一卷书卷，毋庸置疑这便是《使徒行传》（Acts of the Apostles）的第三卷福音书。
