Data for Synthesis of Global Color Mosaics of Asteroid (433) Eros PDART

This archive is for data associated with the Synthesis of Global Color Mosaics of Asteroid (433) Eros project, funded by the NASA Planetary Data Archiving Restoring and Tools (PDART) program, performed at the University of Arizona (UA). This archive is described in the Eros_PDART_description.docx file. It includes a set of shapefiles and associated statistics marking the locations of color features on the surface of Eros. Features were marked on image color sets acquired by the NEAR-Shoemaker Multispectral Imager (MSI). These images had a new deblurring correction applied as part of the same PDART that produced the shapefile catalog. The deblurred MSI images are available on the PDS (https://astrogeology.usgs.gov/search/map/near_msi_deblurred_images).The list of shapefiles is provided in Eros_PDART_colorsets_used.xlsx, which lists the UA-internal colorset ID and the associated MSI image files (named as they are named in the PDS).The ArcMap shape files are collected in Eros_PDART_shapefiles.zip. They are organized by colorset ID. Each colorset ID folder has several files within it. The critical files are *.shp, which contain the shapefile coordinates. All other extensions are ancillary ArcMap files. For import into another GIS program (even another instance of ArcMap), only *.shp are needed. As described in the docx, three types of surface features were tracked: bright streaks, crater rims, and crater centers. Any combination of these three may have been tracked for a given colorset. Shapefiles only exist for the feature types that were tracked in a colorset.The shapefile statistics are provided in Eros_PDART_shapefile_statistics.xlsx. Reflectance values from the images listed in the spreadsheet are extracted from shape files and collated here. The spreadsheet can be used to create plots comparing color ratios of different features.
