Sovereign Dressed as Xiuhtecuhtli

In the coronation ceremoies of Mexica rulers it was customary to represent them with features of the god of fire, Xiuhtecuhtli, who also sponsored political power. The character represented in this sculpture wears the painted blue (now missing) diadem, nose and ear accessories that corresponds precisely to the turquoise ornaments of Xiuhtecuhtli, so it could serve as the image of one of the sovereigns the day he assumes power.在墨西卡（Mexica）统治者的加冕仪式中，以火神修特库特利（Xiuhtecuhtli）的形象来表现统治者乃是通行惯例，该神祇同时庇佑世俗政治权力。此件雕塑所刻画的形象头戴彩绘蓝色（现已佚失）冕冠，搭配与修特库特利的绿松石饰件完全契合的鼻饰与耳饰，因此该作品可作为某位君主即位当日的肖像造像。
