VPRS 14938 Index to Log Allocation Files

Log allocation files were recorded in the Forest Commission's general indexes under subject (and forest district). In addition, the Commission created indexes to the names of log licensees. This index, being the oldest of those indexes, refers to file numbers from the 1941 to the 1965. It consists of cards that were arranged by the agency on two small wheels within small metal cabinets. One wheel was for licensees within the range A-J; the other was for licensees within the range K-Y.This index was superseded by another card index maintained by Forests Commission Victoria and later by the Commerce Branch of the Department of Conservation, Forests and Lands up to the late 1980s. More recently, this kind of information has been recorded on computer databases.
