SHIFT Atlas Sourcebooks: Studio Research Booklets on Vernacular Climate Adaptation, 2024–2026 — Version 1.0

This record archives studio research booklets developed in the context of SHIFT, a teaching and research initiative at the Chair of Building Technology and Climate Responsive Design, Technical University of Munich. The sourcebooks document student research on vernacular architecture, passive climate adaptation, spatial strategies, material systems, body-scale shelters, shading devices, ventilation, porosity, courtyard typologies, and climate-responsive urban habits. The collection serves as source material for the Atlas of Vernacular Architecture, an interactive research prototype that maps vernacular and low-tech climate adaptation strategies across regions, climate zones, mechanisms, and strategy families. The uploaded files include research booklets from Summer 2025 and Winter 2025–26 studios. Cases derived from these sourcebooks are editorially reviewed before being added to the atlas. Some atlas entries may include additional editorial supplementation, such as coordinates, climate data, source verification, image credits, and terminology alignment.
