Southern California Social Survey, 1987

The Southern California Social Surveys continued the Los Angeles Metropolitan Area Surveys [LAMAS], conducted between 1970 and 1976. The 1987 SCSS focuses on how people feel about life and living in southern California. In addition to core items, this survey looks at work groups and organizations. Topics include mental health, health status, health insurance, smoking and alcohol consumption, rating of public schools, opinion of neighborhood, socialization with ethnic groups, discrimination, view of the death penalty, political participation, political party ID, pollution, financial well-being, major purchases, use of credit cards, women's rights, TV ownership, VCR ownership, work history, travel time to work, work attitudes, job search, unemployment insurance, work-related groups and committees, educational attainment, union membership, basic demographics. There are 947 respondents.This study is provided 'as is' and questions may be directed to the Data Archive.
