This paper presents an original framework exploring how manipulative and adaptive traits develop, evolve, and manifest within the digital age. It proposes that manipulation is a core survival trait within human evolution, rather than an anomaly. Modern environments — particularly online spaces — accelerate the visibility and adaptability of these traits. The work introduces the Environmental-Stability Model of Behaviour (ESMB), which explains how individuals adapt to rapidly changing environments through control, grandiosity, and ego-preserving mechanisms. Manipulative traits are described as existing on a spectrum from overt control to covert influence, shaped by environmental stability, personal boundaries, and self-control.
