An insight into vitamin E and lipid nutrition of the plains-wanderer Pedionomus torquatus

Vitamin E, as α-tocopherol, is an essential antioxidant protecting the body from free radicals. The vitamin E requirement of managed wildlife species is known to be greater than their wild counterparts, predominantly due to higher dietary lipid content and potentially stressful environments. The plains-wanderer (Pedionomus torquatus, Family Pedionomidae [monotypical]) is a critically endangered, superficially quail-like bird that is the focus of an ongoing captive breeding program in Australia. It is estimated that plains-wanderers have a high vitamin E requirement (compared to domestic poultry species) to offset a high lipid diet and their naturally flighty temperament. This study therefore aims to gain a greater understanding of the nutritional status and vitamin E requirements of plains-wanderers in managed environments. ## Description of the data and file structure

File 1 provides intake measurements per food item or individual incorporating protein (g), protein (%), protein energy (kcal), fat (g), fat (%), fat energy (kcal), carbohydrate (g), carbohydrate (%), carbohydrate energy (kcal), as described in the corresponding manuscript. File 2 provides a-tocopherol (ug/ml) and cholesterol (mmol/L) measurements per individual. Sample IDs are matched across the two files.

文件1包含每份食物或每只个体的摄入测量数据，具体包括蛋白质（g）、蛋白质占比（%）、蛋白质供能（kcal）、脂肪（g）、脂肪占比（%）、脂肪供能（kcal）、碳水化合物（g）、碳水化合物占比（%）以及碳水化合物供能（kcal），具体细节详见对应研究论文。文件2包含每只个体的α-生育酚（μg/ml）与胆固醇（mmol/L）检测数据。两个文件中的样本ID一一对应。
