Brass rifle butt: Earl of Abergavenny 1805

 The buttplate of a rifle. This is made of brass which is a copper alloy. It would have been fitted to the end of the rifle to rest against the shoulder when firing. Recovered form the wreck of the Earl of Abergavenny, a very large East Indiaman that sank in Weymouth Bay in 1805 shortly after departing on its 5th major voyage.  *Measurements from the structured light scan.* Scanned by the Maritime Archaeology Trust on behalf of the Nautical Archaeology Society with a HP SLS3 and post-processed in ZBrush.
