The caddisfly S. permistus is adapted to rivers that dry out periodically (i.e. intermittent rivers). Larvae usually complete their life cycle before flow ceases but they are also able to survive the loss of water. This study set out to identify genes responding to the change in water availability comparing wet, moist and dry conditions. Single individuals were analyzed using Massive Analysis of cDNA Ends (MACE).
