Worldwide, obesity and associated metabolic disorders have become highly prevalent diseases, especially in the older population and, due to its influence on host energy metabolism, the human gut microbiota has been implicated an important role therein. The study explores associations between the composition of gut bacterial communities and obesity and the metabolic syndrome.
