Marine phage metagenomes from 4 oceanic regions. Marine Phage Metagenome

Marine phages were isolated from four oceanic regions as part of a global survey of the viruses present within the marine environment. Metagenomic analyses of 184 viral assemblages collected over a decade and representing 68 oceanic sites showed large global diversity (several hundred thousand species) and regional richness varied on a North-South latitudinal gradient.
