Side of a Sarcophagus

This side of a sarcophagus originates from a workshop in Rome, created around the 2nd Century AD. The relief depicts part of the narrative of Apollo and Python; in the mythological story Apollo was born as a product of an affair between Zeus and Leto, intended to be killed by Python under Hera's orders. The avenge this Apollo killed Python, who protected centre of the earth (Omphalos) in Delphi.这件石棺（sarcophagus）的侧板出自罗马的一处工坊，制作于公元2世纪前后。其上的浮雕（relief）展现了阿波罗与巨蟒皮同（Python）叙事的部分内容。在该神话故事中，阿波罗为宙斯（Zeus）与勒托（Leto）的私情所生，原本需遵照赫拉（Hera）的指令被皮同杀害。为复仇，阿波罗击杀了守护德尔斐（Delphi）大地中心脐点（Omphalos）的皮同。
