We report very low frequency (VLF) observation of interaction of waves from atmospheric lightning with radiation belt particles. The observation provides a unique opportunity to remotely sense the dynamics of the energetic particle population in the Earth’s radiation belts and how this population leads to amplification and generation of waves.
本研究报道了一项甚低频(very low frequency, VLF)观测结果,观测揭示了大气闪电产生的电磁波与辐射带粒子(radiation belt particles)的相互作用过程。此次观测为遥感探测地球辐射带(Earth’s radiation belts)内高能粒子群体的动力学特征,以及该群体如何介导电磁波的放大与产生,提供了独一无二的研究机遇。
