Five undergraduate research projects were undertaken during the summer of 1998. Projects, reported here, were selected to study the optimal salinity, light intensity and incubation period for astanxanthin production in the green alga "Haematoccus pluvialis", fishing and non-fishing activities in the Waikiki Marine Life Reserve, a restoration project transplanting black coral, and the population of "Octopus cyanea" in Kaneohe Bay.
