GLP-1 receptor agonist (GLP-1RA) therapies offer histological benefits for non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) patients. Key mechanisms include weight loss, improved blood sugar control, and potential direct liver effects. After stopping GLP1-RA therapy, weight regain is common. To understand the main contributors, we conducted a 29-patient study comparing GLP-1RA treatment (Liraglutide) to lifestyle-induced weight loss in NAFLD. We measured various factors like lipogenesis, liver health via imaging, body composition, RNA-sequencing of fat tissue, blood proteome, and stool microbiome. Patients were randomized to either lifestyle or GLP1-RA treatment for 12 weeks, with follow-up investigations post-treatment and 12 weeks after stopping treatment
