Mannheimia haemolytica is a major source of disease in the US cattle industry. The organism is commonly carried by healthy animals, but during adverse conditions of stress and/or concurrent viral infection infection can spread to the lungs and cause disease. Serotype 2 responds to stress and virus infection differently than serotypes 1 or 6 and spreads to lung at lower rates than the latter. This project is being undertaken to elucidate the genetic basis for M. haemolytica response to stress / virus infection and thereby potentially intervene in the process.
