Biophysical Observations Aboard Alaska Marine Highway System Ferries dataset (NPRB Project 707); Gulf of Alaska; September 2004-November 2008; Cokelet, Mordy and Pegau

The current dataset consists of two NetCDF files: one with the nitrate measurements on a time axis with 600-s timesteps, and the second with the
remaining measurements on a time axis with 10-s timesteps. Specifically it holds following measurements:
(1) temperature and salinity – basic physical variables,
(2) nitrate - an essential phytoplankton nutrient,
(3) chlorophyll fluorescence – an indicator of phytoplanktonconcentration,
(4) colored dissolved organic matter (CDOM) fluorescence – an indicator of terrestrial runoff, and
(5) optical beam transmittance – an indicator of suspended sediment.
These datasets were archived as part of the North Pacific Research Board legacy project recovery effort undertaken by Axiom Data Science and NPRB in 2025. The goal of the recovery effort was to assess the NPRB-funded data projects from 2002 to 2014 and archive final data packages that were ready for publication to increase long-term accessibility and discoverability. Data packages were archived as is given limited funding and resources.
