Vitamin D protects from alcohol-associated liver disease by preserving gut microbiome and intestinal barrier function via intestinal TXNIP

This study aims to characterize gut microbiota composition in mice with intestinal epithelial cell-specific deletion of Txnip and littermate controls under vitamin D modulation and alcohol exposure. Cecal content samples were collected from Txnip IEC and Txnip fl/fl mice maintained on vitamin D-sufficient or vitamin D-deficient diets, with or without binge alcohol treatment, and microbial DNA was extracted for 16S rRNA gene sequencing.
