Result data set BURDEN 2020 – burden of disease in Germany and its regions

Indicators of the burden of disease are increasingly coming to the fore for a variety of applications, including in the federal and state public health service, research, development and other areas of health care. They measure the health status of a population using a consistent metric. Also referred to as summary measures of population health, they integrate various diseases and injuries as causes of health impairments (morbidity) and death (mortality). Standardized calculation methods make it possible to quantify the importance of individual diseases and to compare them with each other. The possibility of stratification by region, age or gender also allows for a differentiated view. The key figures include the indicator for the total burden of disease (DALY), which is the sum of the two individual components of mortality (YLL) and morbidity (YLD). These indicators were developed as part of the "BURDEN 2020 - The burden of disease in Germany and its regions" project. at national and regional level. With the present data publication, the result data set of the project is made available to the public (open data). It contains the structure and content of the result data set, a brief overview of the project, the data sources used and the methods used to determine the individual indicators. The result data were visualized to illustrate the concept on the website <a href="http://www.daly.rki.de">www.daly.rki.de</a>.
