Painted Hand Pose dataset

Hands represent an important aspect of pictorial narration but have been fairly little addressed in art history and digital humanities. Furthermore, the classification of depicted hand poses requires a specific nomenclature which has not been built yet. Based on recent art historical works on hand gestures, we present the first annotated dataset of painted hands and introduces a new classification task. The Painted Hand Pose dataset was built from the photographic collection of the Bibliotheca Hertziana - Max Planck Institute for Art History from Early Modern European paintings. It holds a total of 1'398 images dispatched into 9 categories.

手部在图像叙事中占据重要地位，但在艺术史与数字人文领域中却鲜有得到深入探讨。此外，对绘画手部姿态进行分类所需的专门命名体系目前仍未构建完成。基于近期有关手部姿态的艺术史研究成果，我们构建了首个带有标注的绘画手部数据集，并提出了一项全新的分类任务。本绘画手部姿态数据集（Painted Hand Pose dataset）的素材取自马克斯·普朗克艺术史研究所赫茨亚纳图书馆（Bibliotheca Hertziana - Max Planck Institute for Art History）收录的近代早期欧洲绘画摄影馆藏，总计包含1398张图像，被划分为9个类别。
