Queen's University Biological Station Lake Chemistry

The Queen’s University Biological Station (QUBS) lake project ran from 2012 to 2016 with the aim to collect background water chemistry and plankton data from 6 lakes on QUBS property, as well as lakes in the surrounding region. The QUBS lakes were sampled May to August at fortnightly or monthly intervals whereas the surrounding lakes were sampled once annually in July or August. The water chemistry samples were analyzed by the Chemistry Lab at the Dorset Environmental Science Centre in Dorset, ON and zooplankton samples were analyzed by various students, including Megan Borland, Lauren Witterick, Mark Reist, Phil Anderson, Kaitlyn Brougham, and James Sinclair. Sample collection was done by Ayo Adurogbangba, Amelia Corrigan, Katrina Furlanetto, Ariel Gittens, Amelia Cox, Phil Anderson, Marcus Threndyle, Megan, Borland, Lauren Witterick, Emily Drinkwater, and Kaitlyn Brougham. Funding was provided by NSERC Discovery grants to S.E. Arnott and B.A. Nelson, Queen’s University’s Summer Work Experience Program, and the Alexander and Cora Munn Summer Research Award.
