Portrait of a Hellenistic Queen Arsinoe III of Egypt (?)

Alexandria (Egypt) (?), donated by M. Büchner in 1976 Marble, around 220 - 210 BC We cannot be certain that this superb head has been rightly attributed as a portrait of the Ptolemaic queen. Surviving coin images and sculptural portraits of Arsinoe III (r. 220 - 204), who married her brother Ptolemy IV Philopator, are too heterogeneous. The figure does bear a likeness to Arsinoe III in the narrow eyes and small mouth. This object is part of Scan The World.
