资源简介:
99 European American (48 men, 50 women, 1 other), 100 Chinese (50 men, 50 women), and 97 Chilean participants (53 men, 40 women, 4 other). All participants were adults, with European Americans having the highest average age (M = 39.13, SD = 15.00), followed by Chinese (M = 31.76, SD = 7.55) and Chileans (M = 27.49, SD = 7.19). European American and Chilean participants completed the study online through Prolific Academic, while the Chinese sample was recruited through a comparable platform called Credamo. Prior to participation, participants were screened to have a high approval rating for online studies (90% or greater) and be fluent in the language they were tested in (English for European Americans, Chinese for Chinese, and Spanish for Chileans). All participants were screened to confirm that they were born in and currently residing in their respective countries. For the European American sample, participants were additionally screened to ensure they identified as White/Caucasians with non-Hispanic ancestry. After filling out an informed consent form, participants were instructed to recall two situations where they 1) felt or received love and 2) felt or received gratitude. This procedure closely follows a method from the prior situation sampling study by Kitayama et al. (1997). Participants finished with basic demographic questions about age, gender, race, ethnicity, religious beliefs, family education, and perceived social status. The order of the questions was randomized for all participants. The study protocol was in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki and was approved by the Duke University Institutional Review Board (Protocol # 2022-0209).
