This project encompasses the whole-genome sequencing, assembly, and comparative genomic analysis of Leishmania shawi, Leishmania guyanensis, and a naturally occurring interspecific hybrid strain (L. shawi/L. guyanensis). The primary objective is to elucidate the genomic architecture and genetic structure of this hybrid strain to advance our understanding of hybridization events in Leishmania parasites. By characterizing the genome organization, sequence polymorphisms, and potential recombination patterns, this study aims to provide insights into the evolutionary mechanisms, genetic diversity, and biological implications of hybridization within the genus Leishmania.
