RugbyScope: a Transfer-Oriented Rugby Union Database

RugbyScope is a database aiming at describing rugby union players, teams, and stints. It is based on the combination of data coming from 7 sources: Wikidata: a knowledge base manually populated by its users; DBpedia: a knowledge base automatically populated based on Wikipedia and other sources; Five language versions of Wikipedia: English, French, Italian, Japanese, Spanish. More particularly the infoboxes. This database is the object of data paper, currently under review: V. Labatut & D. The source code that implements the retrieval and cleaning of the data available from these sources is freely available on GitHub, as a collection of Python and R scripts gathered in the RugbyScope repository. The original data sources exhibit various level of complementarity and of conflicting information. We try to solve these issues automatically, but a part of the process had to be conducted manually, as documented in our source code. The GitHub repository also contains statistics and plots describing the data. Database. This version of the database contains two variants of the stints: full: all the stints retrieved from the sources; major: only the stints played while above 18 year old.
