Public Opinion Polling (School Assignment Policies) in the Upper South - 2015 -

Interviews with randomly selected respondents in five school districts. Includes an oversample of African Americans. Public Policy Polling (PPP) first purchased two sets of lists of phone numbers in Raleigh (a simple random sample of 35,000 households with landlines from an overall list of 166,907 Raleigh numbers AND a list of 37,218 land line numbers that belonged to African Americans). PPP tried to reach a respondent at each number about 14 times across a 12-day period, and calls that did not reach someone over 21 years were counted as non-interviews. In Raleigh, the final sample included 1005 respondents which included 228 African Americans. A similar process for cell phone numbers (through Sexton) was conducted. In Raleigh, this resulted in a pool of 38,883 respondents from which they selected 6000 cell phone numbers, called at least six times, resulting in 208 live interviews. For African Americans, Sexton used a pool of 13,601 individuals, randomly selected 6000, and 92 interviews were completed. A similar strategy occurred in the four remaining school systems.
