Public Archives in RDF

The State Archive of the Canton of Basel-Stadt acts as a memory of the state and the city. The rich collections reflect the history of Basel since the Middle Ages. Since 1999, the archive material has been accessed in an archive information system (scopeArchiv) and a digital reading room (DLS) is available for search and use (https://dls.staatsarchiv.bs.ch). The data set published here includes all publicly available information from the archive system, transformed into an RDF data model based on the archive-specific Ontologie Records in Context (RiC-O) (https://www.ica.org/standards/RiC/ontology). Both the mapping to RiC-O and the content can change, backward compatibility cannot be guaranteed. If a stable integration in services is planned, please contact us. The mapping for the transformation of the data to RDF is carried out primarily by R2RML (https://www.w3.org/TR/r2rml/) and downstream with SPARQL (Ω). All mappings can be found in the public repository StABS-scope2RDF (https://github.com/Staatsarchiv-Basel-Stadt/StABS-scope2RDF). The transformation takes place in an ETL pipeline (https://github.com/Staatsarchiv-Basel-Stadt/RDF-Pipeline) of the company Zazuko, whose source code is also public.
