This data comprises a survey of Recent ice from multiple sites in Antarctica using shallow ice cores to examine noble gas values in ice that nominally has the same Mean Ocean Temperature as today. The goal is to elucidate fractionation that occurs in the firn before air is trapped in bubbles in the ice, by making the assumption that the atmosphere noble gas content has not changed since this air was trappped. The ages of the air samples are typically early Industrial Revolution or late Holocene.
本数据集源自对南极多个点位的近年冰体开展的调查研究,采用浅冰芯(shallow ice cores)技术,对名义上与当前海洋平均温度(Mean Ocean Temperature)一致的冰样中的稀有气体(noble gas)含量进行分析。本研究的核心目标是阐明空气在被封存入冰内气泡之前,于粒雪(firn)层中发生的分馏作用,为此我们假设自该空气被封存以来,大气中的稀有气体含量未发生改变。所获取的空气样本的年代通常处于工业革命早期或全新世晚期。
