Distribution of methylmercury, selenium and arsenic within fish muscular system of Striped Bass and Northern Pike. Distribution of metal(loid)s was assessed according to muscle zone, muscle depth and muscle type. Methylmercury and selenium were positively linked to the protein content, while arsenic was positively correlated to the lipid content. In individual Striped Bass muscle tissues, metals varied on average by 2.2-fold, in contrast of the pike with 1.4-fold. The heterogeneous distribution of metal(loid)s in the Striped Bass muscle seems to came from the presence of the red muscle at its lateral line. In Pike flesh, red muscle were negligible.
