资源简介:

Emotional expression constitutes an important component of literary discourse, enabling writers to represent psychological states, communicate evaluative attitudes, and construct interpersonal relationships through linguistic choices. This article examines the semantic and pragmatic dimensions of emotional expression in English and Uzbek literary discourse, focusing on the interaction between lexical meaning, contextual interpretation, communicative intention, and narrative function. Drawing on theories of conceptual metaphor, speech acts, relevance, and appraisal, the study develops an integrated analytical framework for investigating how emotional meanings are encoded, inferred, and interpreted in literary texts. Particular attention is given to evaluative vocabulary, intensification, figurative language, irony, and indirect emotional expression. The article argues that emotionality cannot be adequately explained through the identification of emotionally marked words alone, since the pragmatic significance of an expression may depend on its textual environment and the relationships between fictional speakers. The proposed framework distinguishes explicit emotional meaning, contextually inferred attitudes, and potential reader-oriented effects. It also provides a methodological basis for contrastive research that examines similarities and differences between English and Uzbek literary texts without presupposing direct equivalence between their linguistic forms. The findings presented are theoretical and require further validation through systematic analysis of authentic literary materials.
