Arctic ocean water Meta'omics

We analyzed the planktonic microbial assemblage from early March to July in Dease Strait (Canadian Arctic). We sequenced metagenomes and metatranscriptomes of the small size fraction (0.2 to 3 micrometers) near the surface under the ice. The winter community was the typical Arctic winter assemblage with Alpha- and Gammaproteobacteria as the dominant taxa, followed by Thaumarchaeota and Bacteroidetes. In the summer, on the other hand, Bacteroidetes and particularly the genus Polaribacter, became the dominant taxon, followed by the Gammaproteobacteria.
