On Friday, November 8, typhoon Haiyan (category 5 on the Saffir-Simpson scale) met in the Philippines at 4:40 am local time. With wind speeds of more than 300 km/h, the typhoon moved across the islands of Samar and Leyte in the west-northwest direction, triggering numerous storm surges that caused large-scale destruction. According to official estimates, more than 2,300 people died. Hundreds of thousands became homeless.The map shows the situation around the village of San Remigio. Based on a visual interpretation of before and after satellite images (previously: Pléiades, 02.09.2013, 02:22 UTC — After: Worldview-1, 11/11/2013, 02:14 UTC; Pléiades, 14.11.2013, 02:10 UTC) a detailed damage assessment was made.
