Louis XV as Jupiter at The Louvre, Paris
This is a marble sculpture, created by Nicolas Coustou (Lyon, 1658 - Paris, 1733) and completed in 1731. It depicts Louis XV (1710-1744) as Jupiter. The artwork, with its 'twin' representing Marie Leszczynska (also uploaded on MyMiniFactory and Scan The World), is a commission by the general director of the Royal Buildins, the duke of Antin; it was commisioned in 1725 to decorate the parks and gardens of his chateau in Petit-Bourg. The two statues were integrated into the royal domain of Versailles after the death of the duke. One can recognise to the side of these monarchs the attributes of the Greek king and queen of the gods: the eagle of Jupiter and the peacock of Junon. This object is part of Scan The World. Scan the World is a non-profit initiative introduced by MyMiniFactory, through which we are creating a digital archive of fully 3D printable sculptures, artworks and landmarks from across the globe for the public to access for free. Scan the World is an open source, community effort, if you have interesting items around you and would like to contribute, email stw@myminifactory.com to find out how you can help.
