Experimental evolution of Escherichia coli in iron (III) and Escherichia T7 phage: Pleiotropy and correlated responses. Escherichia coli strain:K-12 MG1655

Experimental evolution was utilized to create iron (III)/phage-resistant, iron (III)-resistant and phage-resistant variants of Escherichia coli K-12 MG 1655. We measured physical changes among the variants when exposed to excess iron (III), T7 phage and both iron (III) and T7 phage. DNA sequencing was also utilized to determine genomic changes among the variants. We found that the foundation of both excess iron and bacteriophage resistance resulted from relatively small changes in the genome.
