(Table 4-5, page 285) Radioactive and stable chemical composition of ferromanganese crusts of the Pacific Ocean (ARIES-12D and ARIES-15D)

From 1983 until 1989 NOAA-NCEI compiled the NOAA-MMS Marine Minerals Geochemical Database from journal articles, technical reports and unpublished sources from other institutions. At the time it was the most extended data compilation on ferromanganese deposits world wide. Initially published in a proprietary format incompatible with present day standards it was jointly decided by AWI and NOAA to transcribe this legacy data into PANGAEA. This transfer is augmented by a careful checking of the original sources when available and the encoding of ancillary information (sample description, method of analysis...) not present in the NOAA-MMS database.

1983年至1989年间，美国国家海洋和大气管理局国家环境信息中心（NOAA-NCEI）依托期刊论文、技术报告及其他机构的未公开资料，汇编构建了NOAA-MMS海洋矿物地球化学数据库。彼时，该数据集是全球范围内覆盖最全面的铁锰矿床相关数据汇编。该数据库最初以专有格式发布，与现行数据标准不兼容，因此德国阿尔弗雷德·魏格纳研究所（AWI）与NOAA共同决定，将这批遗留数据转录至PANGAEA平台。此次数据迁移过程中，还对可获取的原始资料开展了细致核查，并补充编码了原NOAA-MMS数据库未收录的辅助信息，例如样品描述、分析方法等。
